How Often You Should Upload, From A YouTube Employee

You've probably heard that you should be uploading daily in order to grow your channel and get more views. But how true is that? Is there a "sweet spot"? Today, I'm talking with YouTube employee and fellow creator Matt Koval, who runs the official 'YouTube Creators' and 'Team YouTube channels. He explains how frequently you should be uploading, why, and what he found works best on YouTube's own official channels.

I agree. I was trying to keep a pace of 2-3 videos a week. It was hard to keep up with and also the views weren't increasing. I'm down to one upload a week now and my videos are more successful. Giving your videos "breathing room" is definitely a thing.

My audience has grown really significantly and my views are way up since I went to once a week - because that one video is now so much more thoughtful than the three or four that I used to upload! This is great information and definitely something to test. It was hard to drop down my production! I thought for sure it would kill my channel, but just the opposite! So great to hear that what I'm already doing is enough. I've experienced burnout too many times before.

Allowing an entire week before uploading is now giving me a better perspective and allowing my creative well to fill up during the week before posting. I've recently started using YouTube Stories to fill in the gaps between uploads. We'll see if this helps or not. It would be nice if YouTube added some analytics for Stories.

This is really helpful! It’s hard to figure out how often I should upload. I make fiber art videos in the style of ASMR, so I’m trying to bridge between two communities. There’s a misnomer that fiber art is just for middle-aged and older women, and there’s a growing number of younger fiber artists who are trying to change that perspective. I’m trying to show young people (approx. 18-40 years, give or take either way) that it can be extremely relaxing and fun.

Last year was my first year doing it, and this year I’m trying to learn more about the technical side of it, including how do I get the algorithm to work. I definitely want my channel to grow, and since I started working more on the technical aspects of the videos, I’ve been slowly, but surely, growing. It can be hard to not compare myself to other ASMR Artists who have thousands or millions of subscribers, but it does show me what is possible.

And there are no secrets about my technical prowess! LOL, I am a much better artist than I am a techie, and I’ve mentioned that in my videos. My videos are pretty raw and unedited, but I am learning basic editing. This sounds about right. It’s the best advice I’ve got so far being on YouTube.

It’s like being in College and the teacher giving you all the homework, readings, and research you have to do. It overwhelms you. I love getting professors that truly understand that they want us to learn but not burn 🔥 lol. I dislike when I get a teacher who doesn’t care if we retain the information or not. Some new Professors be overzealous my God! So happy to hear about making sure your content is quality over quantity.
